Ken Mudge

Ken Mudge has been involved in agroforestry research, teaching, and extension for over twenty years. His research has focused on non-timber forest products including nitrogen-fixing trees, American ginseng, forest-cultivated mushrooms, and others. He teaches courses including a practicum in forest farming, plant propagation, and grafting. He is principal investigator on a NE SARE-funded extension project, in collaboration with the University of Vermont and with established shiitake farmers (including coauthor Steve Gabriel) to train forest owners in shiitake mushroom production as a business enterprise.

On August 8th, Ken Mudge will present a workshop at the Mother Earth News Fair in West Bend, WI. Mudge's workshop, "Forest Farming: An Agroforestry Approach to Forest Management" will take place at the Yanmar Sustainable Agriculture Stage from 2:30-3:30PM.

Location: 22 Kings, Highway Rowe, MA, 01367 | Authors: Ken Mudge

Ken Mudge will co-lead a course with David Fischer on farming the forest at Rowe Camp and Conference Center from September 18-20. Participants will learn how to forage wild mushrooms, as well as cultivate gourmet mushrooms, ginseng, ramps and more. Cost to register includes a sliding scale and cost reduction opportunities through bartering.
