Stephen Leslie

Stephen Leslie is the author of The New Horse-Powered Farm, published by Chelsea Green in 2013. He began his farming career in 1992 at Hawthorne Valley, a biodynamic farm in upstate New York, where he worked for three years as an apprentice. Since then, in partnership with his wife, Kerry Gawalt, he has made his living farming and gardening with draft horses. Currently, Stephen and Kerry and their daughter, Maeve, own and operate Cedar Mountain Farm, a Fjord-horse-powered CSA and Jersey-cow dairy at the Cobb Hill Cohousing in Hartland, Vermont. Stephen is a regular contributor to the Small Farmer’s Journal and Rural Heritage magazine.

Stephen Leslie at Draft Animal Power Field Days

Stephen Leslie will be presenting at this year's Draft Animal Power Field Days, which is taking place September 24-27 at the Cummington Fairgrounds in Cummington, MA. Leslie will be teach four workshops for the Field Days, all of which will take place on Saturday, September 26th. His first workshop, "Beginning Crop Cultivation" will be from 8:30-10:00AM, and will be co-taught with David Fisher. Following this workshop will be another, "Advanced Crop Cultivation," that will be also co-taught by Leslie and Fisher and will take place from 10:15-11:45AM. Leslie will then teach two afternoon workshops, the first being "Benefits of the Smaller Draft Breed" which will take place 1:30-3:00PM and will be co-taught with Michael Glos. Leslie's last workshop, "Draft Animals at Work in Europe," will take place from 3:15-4:45PM. Weekend passes to the Field Days are $25, and single-day passes are $15.
