We lead the industry both in terms of content, with foundational books on renewable energy, green building, organic agriculture, eco-cuisine, and ethical business; and in terms of environmental practice, by printing on recycled paper.

Digital Marketing Manager:

Chelsea Green is looking for an experienced Digital Marketing Manager to lead strategic online marketing efforts, including direct email marketing, e-commerce, social media, and brand building. To be successful in this position you must be creative, data-obsessed, and you must love the (social) web. You’ll be happy at Chelsea Green if you’re a reader, you care about the mission, and you’re a self-starter. The Digital Marketing Manager will oversee a Digital Marketing Assistant and will report to the Marketing Director. This is a full-time, salaried exempt position in White River Junction, Vermont.


E-commerce and Website Management

  • Develop and execute strategies for boosting traffic to the company website, increasing conversion rates and e-commerce revenue, and growing the email list.
  • Oversee technical operation of website and ensure site performance, coordinating functional adjustments, updates, and usability enhancements (working with developers as needed).
  • Oversee updates to website via content management systems (Stison, WordPress, Scribd, etc.).
  • Manage SEO strategy and implementation.
  • Coordinate graphic design needs with Production Director.

Email Marketing

  • Drive significant and continuous growth of email list.
  • Develop and execute e-mail marketing strategy, including management of email calendar, list segmentation, A/B testing, brand messaging, direct to consumer sales, and other tactics for increasing website traffic and community engagement.

Social Media & Audience Development

  • Develop multi-platform social media strategy, coordinating content and messaging across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and other platforms to increase followers and engagement and grow brand reach.
  • Work with publicity, editorial, sales, and author events team to coordinate promotional efforts.
  • Advise authors about optimizing their social media platforms for book promotion.

 Performance Analysis and Market Research

  • Live and breathe sales, customer engagement, and conversion data. Track analytics from several sources, report regularly to CGP staff, and extract trends and insights to maximize ROI.
  • Design and conduct experiments to ensure continuous learning and improvement.
  • Monitor emerging trends, applications, and best practices in email marketing, website management, SEO, social media, and other online marketing strategies.


  • Minimum 5 years experience in digital marketing.
  • Experience working with established brands or building emerging brands preferred.
  • Proven interest in Chelsea Green mission.
  • Fluency with website and email marketing analytics tools (Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Experience with graphic design (Adobe Suite), email marketing, and content management systems.
  • Experience collaborating with designers and developers.
  • Familiarity with third party payment systems ( and PCI compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking.
  • Demonstrated interest in trends and best practices in online marketing and measurement.
  • Experience with HTML and CSS (knowledge of JavaScript is a plus).

 Trade Sales Manager

Chelsea Green is looking for an experienced sales professional to join the sales and marketing team as Trade Sales Manager. The key responsibilities of this position are to direct, manage, and grow trade sales, including international sales, across Chelsea Green’s subject categories, which include organic farming and gardening, permaculture, ecology, the environment, resilience and homesteading, food, health and wellness, and sustainable business and economics. The successful candidate will understand how to operate in a changing publishing industry, will be adept at building relationships, and will be relentlessly data driven. The Trade Sales Manager reports to the publisher.


  • Sell and manage national accounts including, Barnes & Noble, Baker & Taylor, Ingram and other major wholesalers and distributors
  • Develop sales strategies and promotional marketing opportunities with buyers at key accounts
  • Oversee and manage commission rep groups, including: developing sales goals, presenting new titles, responding to rep questions and issues, providing reps with sales materials, and analyzing performance
  • Oversee and manage indie bookstore partner program, including assessing stores for participation, developing cooperative marketing strategies, monitoring stores for compliance and performance, and working with reps to make sure program is functioning effectively
  • Manage trade promotions and work with ABA and regional bookseller associations
  • Set up, oversee, and manage international distributors, including presenting new titles, managing inventory and reorders, analyzing performance and coordinating with marketing personnel
  • Maintain and monitor metadata for trade sales channels
  • Participate in launch meetings and collaborate closely with sales and marketing team; develop sales goals and report on weekly/monthly/YTD progress
  • Monitor the marketplace in key categories and conduct research on comparable and competing titles, including sales histories


  • Minimum 3-5 years in book publishing sales with knowledge of trade practices and accounts
  • Creative problem solver and motivated self-starter with excellent analytical skills and fluency with metadata systems and online databases
