Joan Dye Gussow is a legend in the food movement. For more than 40 years she has grown her own food on the banks of the Hudson River. She created – and teaches – the acclaimed Nutritional Ecology program at Columbia University. Her books have influenced thousands, and at 81, she still gives lectures nationally.
Joan’s new book, Growing, Older, begins with the loss of her husband to cancer. Joan is surprised to feel liberated rather than grief-stricken. What follows are poignant stories from a life well examined. These vignettes lead to a deeper understanding of Joan’s lack of grief.
The earnest and dignified way in which Joan approaches aging and life gives us all something to aspire towards. Read an excerpt from Growing, Older below.
Joan Dye Gussow’s Growing, Older is available now.
