We are Donating 1500 Books to the Occupy Wall Street Movement

We are donating 1500 copies of our books to the OWS protesters in NYC for use in their education centers and to hand out to the 99%!
For 27 years, Chelsea Green has been the publishing leader for books on the politics and practice of sustainable living. We are a founding member of the Green Press Initiative and have been printing books on recycled paper since 1985, when our first list of books appeared. We lead the industry both in terms of content—foundational books on renewable energy, green building, organic agriculture, eco-cuisine, and ethical business—and in terms of environmental practice, printing 95 percent of our books on recycled paper with a minimum 30 percent post-consumer waste and aiming for 100 percent whenever possible. We exemplify the “triple bottom line” approach, one that benefits people, planet, and profit, and the emerging new model for sustainable business in the 21st century. On September 17, protesters representing 99% of Americans, as contrasted with the wealthiest 1%, descended upon Zuccotti Park (giving it back its original name of Liberty Square) in lower Manhattan. Because democracy no longer seems to function, with Washington effectively occupied by Wall Street, direct action and protest are seen by the movement as the only way for their voices to be heard–and so they’re occupying Wall Street until something changes. From their website: “Occupy Wall Street is leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximize the safety of all participants.” Chelsea Green holds a strong affinity for this movement. Through publishing the works of our activist-authors, we have long advocated a return to local economies, local production of food, the empowerment of individual communities to support themselves, and suspicion of the corporate-occupation of the US government. We thank you, protesters, for standing up strong in the face of the myriad injustices this economic-government collusion has perpetrated on the 99%. We’ve got your back.
