In these intensive five days you will learn to identify trees and plants and come to an understanding of their significance in the landscape and delineate how to use plants for food, medicine and utility. We will observe trees and plants in their natural environment, and through observation, find methods to employ them as windbreaks, shelterbelts, habitat for animals, and companions for other plants that contribute to health and increased yields. Plant guilds, food forests, basic biology, basic botany, effects of weather on vegetation, interactions with animals, and the processes of various habitats and ecosystems (including farm ecosystems) will be discussed and examined. Integrated Forest Gardening

The Complete Guide to Polycultures and Plant Guilds in Permaculture Systems

One of the essential practices of permaculture is to develop perennial agricultural systems that thrive over several decades without expensive and harmful inputs. Integrated Forest Gardening is the first, and most comprehensive, guide about plant guilds ever written, and covers in detail both what guilds are and how to design and construct them. This book will benefit all readers interested in permaculture, from permaculture designers and professional growers, to backyard growers new to the concept.
