Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter’s switch from the Republican to the Democratic Party by no means guarantees that the American people will be seeing comprehensive universal single-payer health care any time soon. An even bigger political hurdle, says Bernie Sanders, the Independent Senator from Vermont, is the power of the private insurance and pharmaceutical companies. What we need is a massive grassroots movement to convince Congress and President Obama that single-payer health care is not only viable, but essential in today’s economic environment.

In this video clip, Sanders and MSNBC’s Ed Schultz discuss the obstacles facing the administration and the Democratic soon-to-be supermajority (counting Minnesota’s Al Franken) in the Senate, and what we the people can do to make sure this essential legislation passes intact.

The affiliate has to do thorough research on the merchant before agreeing to affiliation.
