Newsweek: Peter Barnes’s Cap-And-Dividend Is An Idea Whose Time Has Come

[1] Peter Barnes, author of [2] Climate Solutions: A Citizen’s Guide, was recently honored by Newsweek magazine as one of “four thinkers whose philosophies seem to have captured the intellectual moment” for his cap-and-dividend program proposal. The article will appear in the upcoming January 5th issue.

The article explains cap-and-dividend:

Making producers of coal, oil and gas buy permits to offset the CO2 emitted from their products would raise energy prices. Barnes would avoid a backlash by paying the fees to every American. If you use less fossil fuel and consume fewer products made with it, you’ll come out ahead.
