Chelsea Green and AlterNet Announce a Ground-Breaking Progressive Guide to Effective Political Action
America’s progressive movement is ready and willing to stop practicing politics as usual. This May, Chelsea Green and AlterNet team up to take the next steps toward a more effective progressive movement with Start Making Sense: Turning the Lessons of Election 2004 into Winning Progressive Politics, an opening salvo from a chorus of bold American thinkers, writers, and activists on how citizens can deliver U.S. politics from fear and fundamentalism.
Picking up where George Lakoff left off in his bestselling and award-winning Don’t Think of an Elephant!, Start Making Sense brings together the best progressive thinkers, critics, and organizers to offer creative ways to think about organizing, communicating, and investing in a truly democratic grassroots movement. Some of the book's 42 contributors include: Howard Dean, Arianna Huffington, Jim Hightower, Van Jones, Amy Goodman, Barbara Ehrenreich, Thomas Frank, Naomi Klein, Wes Boyd, Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, Adam Werbach, Michael Shellenberger, Ted Nordhaus, Jim Wallis, Tom Hayden, Andy Stern, and George Lakoff. What do all of these contributors have in common? A new message for Democrats and activists interested in engaging in winning progressive politics!
With the passion of a manifesto and common sense of a guidebook, Start Making Sense challenges us to communicate our values and vision for moving America forward, and offers innovative solutions for reaching out to all citizens who value hope over fear.
This May 12, Salon.com, Working for Change, Common Cause, The New World Foundation, and others will post information about Start Making Sense to member sites and email lists, partnering to help launch the book and the ideas behind it into the hands of people who can use them. We are asking likeminded groups to consider posting an excerpt or link to the book. To join this cooperative progressive launch, please contact Darry Madden at Chelsea Green (publicity@chelseagreen.com).
