The following is an excerpt from When Technology Fails, by Mat Stein. It has been adapted for the web.
Colloidal/ionic silver is used by hospitals to fight skin infections on severe burn patients are all based on the active component of silver. Colloidal/ionic silver is a broadband antibiotic solution that has been used against a myriad of harmful protozoa, bacteria, and viruses, though users indicate that it may require significant quantities (on the order of 2 cups to a quart a day) to successfully treat serious illnesses. It is available in health food stores (expensive!) or can be made for just pennies a day with a simple commercial or homemade colloidal/ ionic silver generator.
Making Your Own Colloidal Silver Generator
In the early 1900s, colloidal silver was very expensive, but in recent years a physicist (Bob Beck, D.Sc.) came up with a simple method for making it. A modern colloidal silver generator is about as complex as a flashlight. Making colloidal silver simply involves placing a DC voltage across two chunks of pure silver (a cathode and an anode) immersed in pure water. Supposedly, 33 volts is the optimum voltage, but 27 volts from three 9-volt batteries works fine. If these are not available, you could get by with two 12-volt solar panels wired in series for a total output of 24 volts. This setup would generate colloidal silver at a slower rate.
See Figure 9-1 for a sketch of how to hook up your own colloidal silver generator. Connect three 9-volt transistor radio batteries in series (+ terminal to – terminal to + terminal, etc.) using readily available 9-volt battery clip-on terminals. Wire a 24-volt light bulb in series with the batteries, then connect it to a minijack for easy use. The light bulb performs two functions. First, it is your battery indicator, which should shine brightly when you touch the two alligator clips or silver wires to each other (if it does not light at all, or very dimly, when you touch the clips to each other, then you should replace your battery). Second, it provides a load to the battery, so you don’t drain your batteries dead after a minute or two if the silver wires are accidentally touching while making the solution. Connect one wire from your battery pack and one from the light bulb to a minijack socket. Tape your battery pack together and mount your lamp, battery pack, and minijack socket into an appropriate box. Split the wires from the minijack plug and connect them to two alligator clips. Cut two 6-inch lengths of 99.99 percent pure silver wire (14 or 16 gauge works well) and bend the ends into ½-inch hooks for hanging over the edge of a glass. Purchase the electrical materials at Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, Intertan, and so on. Silver wire of 99.9 percent purity is available from jewelry supply stores and some craft stores, or you may purchase the pure silver wire, silver generator kits, and complete silver generators from Sota Instruments.

Using Your Colloidal Silver Generator
- Most people stress the use of distilled water, though some people say that reverse-osmosis-filtered water
- will do, provided that the source water is low on total dissolved solids. Pour distilled water into a glass (do not use plastic, as colloidal silver has a tendency to bind to some plastics).
- Regardless of what you may have heard previously, DO NOT ADD SALT TO YOUR SOLUTION. Salt will combine with some of the silver ions to make silver chloride, which is less effective against bacteria (purportedly hundreds of times less effective than ionic silver), is mildly toxic (silver chloride is 300 times less toxic than silver nitrate, which is a powerful antiseptic used in eye drops for infants), and puts added silver into your system that has inferior healing properties.
- Hang the two pure silver wires over the edge of your glass into the water, and clip the two alligator clips to the outside ends of the wires (see Figure 9-1). Plug the minijack connector into your box. The light bulb should be dark or glowing very faintly. If glowing brightly, either the wires are touching or the water contains significant impurities and should not be used. Separate the wires in the solution by 1 to 2 inches.
- If the generator is working properly, after about 10 to 20 minutes there should be tiny bubbles forming on one or both of the wires. If these are not visible, touch the wires together to check the battery and/or connection (the bulb should shine brightly). Ionic silver solutions should be clear or have a gold tint to them. The particles of ionic silver are too small to be seen except with an electron microscope. Colloidal silver is made from silver particles that are microscopic in size, looks like wisps of smoke emanating from one of the silver electrodes, and will usually have a gray or silver tint to the solution. Sota Instruments states that tests on solutions made using distilled water and their current-limiting “Silver Pulser” ionic silver generator (see “Resources”) will make one cup of roughly 5 ppm ionic silver per hour of usage (i.e., 4 hours for 4 cups of 5 ppm ionic silver at room temperature, starting with distilled water). In his article, “Colloidal Silver: A Closer Look,” Peter Lindemann says that the homemade colloidal silver generator of Figure 9-1 should make 8 ounces of a 3 to 5 ppm colloidal silver solution in about 20 to 25 minutes at room temperature (Lindemann 2006).
- Dosage is a matter of personal preference and experience. As a preventative, some people suggest drinking a tablespoon or two daily. For serious illnesses, some people suggest drinking daily one to four 8-ounce glasses of 5 ppm solution. According to calculations based on an equation at silverfacts.com, the safe daily lifetime dosage for a 150-pound man is roughly ½ cup per day of 5 ppm colloidal silver (silverfacts.com, 2007). After each use, clean the silver wires with a harsh plastic pot scrubber.
- For external use, silver solution may be applied to Band-Aids and compresses or sprayed onto burns and affected skin areas. A handy silver salve kit for making a useful antiseptic/antifungal balm from colloidal silver is available at www.elixa. com/silver/ointment.
- Best-quality 9-volt batteries will last a very long time. It is preferable not to use rechargeable batteries as they only produce 7.6 volts. An alternative to using three or four 9-volt batteries is to purchase a 30-volt converter that can be plugged into a wall outlet.
- Storing colloidal silver solution: Silver colloidal solutions are light sensitive. Store them in brown glass bottles (beer, wine, root beer, or prune juice bottles) out of sun and fluorescent light, or in a dark cabinet. Do not store in the refrigerator or near microwave or magnetic fields. Do not store in plastic or metal containers. Wash and rinse bottles thoroughly, with a final rinse using colloidal silver solution. If capping a bottle with plastic or metal, be sure the cap does not touch the colloidal silver solution. If the solution is put into an eyedropper bottle, the dropper stem must be glass.
In an emergency situation, you could use silverware, old silver coins, or jewelry for your colloidal silver generator, although you would get other nonsilver materials in your solution because of impurities.

I bought two feet of thick silver wire 99.99 for $30 from a metal finer online since the pure silver was hard to find in my town. After a year of use the wire looks just the same. I bottle mine in brown rootbeer bottles with press and seal squares for the seal.
I check mine for “done” by beaming a flashlight through the water–when it is colloidal you can see the beam like a thin tube through the water.
I use a homemade generator made from an old phone charger, but I think I will back up with your battery model.
While mine is only one experience, neither I or my teens had a cold that lasted more than a day, plus no strep, sinus infections or bronchitis at all last year. It was our first antibiotic-free winter since I had children.

CAUTION! All that are thinking of jumping on the latest “cure” of colodial silver might be well served to dio a little research independent of the silver community.
I saw a program the other day about a poor lady that has lived a life of hell and redicule at her looks. I saw pictures of her during her interview. Her skin is completly ashen, a silver gray color. Doctors that have examined her say that under magnifaction you can actually see small flakes of silver in her skin. The lady is in her sixties now and she has been this since she was a teenager when a doctor treated her stuffy nose condition with nise drops containing colodial silver!
It seems this affect does not happen to eveyone that uses it. I did recently use a burn cream on my hand for over a month and now that section seems to be a permanent silver color, No worried about a spot on my hand, but can you imagine your whole body being silver colored! Those promoting this will say ‘I’ved (or I know of those that have) used this for a year without any ill affects. I know, the article I saw said it does not happen in every insatance. My question is ‘why take the chance”. Rest assured there will be another “latest and greatest’ new mircle cure band wagon to jump on soon enough.
I have no interest in this matter - I don’t have any competing band wagon to jump on, just wanted to pass this on for what it is worth. Perhaps it might save another lady from a life being known as “the gray lady’.
Did some research and found more info. Do your own search using info from this direct quote I found in the Free Library by Fardex :
“The Gray Lady: Rosemary Jacobs was given nose drops as a child to help her congestion. The nose drops contained silver and after 3 years caused her skin to turn gray. Flakes of silver were embedded in the surface of her skin and is known as a condition called Argyria.”
Here is a nice picture of Rosemary as she looks now:

See if, after researching this, you think it prudent to take colodial silver internally!!

Looked the name up on a mdeical site and found this quote you might find nteresting. It seems the proponents of taking colodial silver internally will be changing this “frequency”!
“Frequency
United States
Argyria has become a rare dermatosis, mainly because of the avoidance of silver-containing compounds as medicinals and a decrease in occupational exposure in the silver industry. Exposure to silver was common in the early part of this century. The famous Blue Man, a member of the Barnum and Bailey Circus sideshow, had a classic case of argyria.”
BTW, Rosemary has a web site that will give you more info to read. I’m sure you will be letting me know what you think of my coments, hopefully it will be “thanks”
he site can be seen at;

Argyria is blown out of proportion, follow the correct procedures for making colloidal silver and all will be fine ie don’t use tap water(distilled only)and don’t add anything to it(salt).
Or you could just stick to modern medicine with its many many side effects that don’t actually cure anything.

Make your own mind up.

This is a very through explanation of how to generate colloidal silver. However, I would suggest just buying the colloidal silver pills instead, makes things a little easier than trying to find a couple batteries.

I am trying to find some site where i will be sure for the quality of the silver wire
Can anyone tell some site …
Thx

Rosemary Jacobs, the lady suffering from Argyria, took silver nitrate nose drops with massive amounts of silver, and (I believe) did not take colloidal silver once in her life. The pharmaceutical companies have turned her into the anti-colloidal silver poster girl. However, it was actually pharmaceutical silver-based medicines, that are somewhat toxic (properly made colloidal silver is not) and given to her at hundreds of times the silver silver concentration of colloidal silver, that made her turn blue.
The recent “blue man” on TV over the past two years did use home made colloidal silver. He pounded about a quart a day of the home made stuff for sixteen years, to help keep a bad case of psoriasis under control that was not responding to pharmaceuticals, so his case is a true example of overdoing it. My guess is that for most of this time he was using the bad old advice of adding salt to the solution to “speed up” the colloidal silver process. What the salts actually do is combine with the silver to form silver salts along with the colloidal silver. Those silver salts are slightly toxic, less effective as an antibiotic than pure colloidal silver , and more prone to leading to Argyria.

Colloidal Silver Kills Bacteria. It has a great power for that.

Colloidal silver is not harmful. It should be properly made from distilled water, I tested tap water and filtered water with a laser Tindal beam and neither was pure or would make a clear or light yellow solution. I use it externally and as a spray in my nose for a coming cold. You really must check the validity of these blue photos. They are not accurate. Blue true, but not caused by pure colloidal silver which is widely available today. I have been using it for 20 years, it cleared a head rash, infections and staph. I highly recommend it.

Solar Garden Light Colloidal Silver Maker -Simple and Very Low Cost
Hello all.
How are you people today?
I am not here to debate the merits or otherwise of colloidal silver. You can do your own research. You have a computer in front of you and search engines galore.
So instead of visiting porn/facebook/twitter,etc,etc all day ,a few minutes research won’t harm you.
I am not here to spoon feed.I find helping people a thankless task and they are mostly obnoxious, ignorant ingrates.
i have come to advise you all about this innovative method of making it,that is all..feel free to spread this around…
i tested the output of solar garden lights and they give out an output voltage from 7 v to 13 volts depending on model and this is usually pulsed rapidly.
( i used a diode capacitor smoothing filter to measure the voltage.
(optional:- you can either smooth it using a diode/capacitor or just leave it as is.)
simply remove the led and attach your 2 silver wires which should be spaced by 1 inch to 2 inches apart to the leads to which the led was attached.
insert parallel silver wires into a glass beaker filled with boiled water. That is it.Very simple.
colloidal silver will be produced very slowly and of very high quality by a solar garden light at night automatically as solar garden lights switch off during the day to charge the battery.Off course you can start it manually by covering up the light sensor or solar cell to simulate darkness.
the whole thing can be build out of the garden solar light including attaching the silver wires to THE HOUSING!
only costs $2 for solar garden light plus silver rods which cost $20 i think…
it can be left next to the window…MAKE SURE WATER FILLED BEAKER IS SHIELDED FROM THE SUN to avoid degrading colloidal silver.use silver paper or cardboard, etc.
the pulsed very low current of less then 0.0003 amps and 7 to 13 voltage spikes will produce very small particles of silver.
some solar lights produce about 7 or 8 volts and some 13 volts.
but in any case this IS very cheap and very simple and very effective way of doing it.
also instead of removing the led altogether just cut ONE of the led’s leads and use the output from their to connect to the silver wire rods.
in effect the led will be in series with one of the rods and will give a visual indication of current flowing through the water. The led could be even angled downwards towards the water into which the electrodes are immersed and be even bright enough to show you the colloidal silver as it turns cloudy very slowly.
optional:- replace WHITE LED with RED LED as RED LED absorbs only 1.5 volt instead of 4 volts.
It will take a long time to make the colloidal silver but this is not for MTV attention span people.Set it and forget it on the window sill.
optional refinement:- A piezo sounder with a inert plastic rod glued to it and dipped in the water connected to both silver rods in parallel and immersed in the water can act as a ultrasonic sonic stirrer.. .but it will take even longer to make the colloidal silver which will be of very high quality.
Remember lower currents produce higher quality and smaller sized colloidal silver particles.
any comments?
velly velly cheep. no i am not chinese either, that was a joke. You will be grateful to know.

“Supposedly, 33 volts is the optimum voltage, but 27 volts from three 9-volt batteries works fine”
“9-volt” batteries as you describe are actually 1.5v just like all the other small batteries we use day to day. so do you actually need 27v or will the 4.5v from the way described here work just the same?
March 6th, 2010 at 3:45 pm
If, as stated, 33v is the optimum charge and a rechargeable battery produces 7.6v wouldn’t it be better to use four of these to produce 30.4v
