The men and women in Mission Rejected: U.S. Soldiers Who Say No to Iraq enlisted in the military for a variety of reasons—patriotic duty, money for college, a promising career. They dedicated their lives to the service of their country and trusted their commander-in-chief to use them responsibly. When they were sent to Iraq to fight a war based on lies, their contract was nullified.
Deluded and angry these soldiers risk jail sentences and exile as they speak out against the injustice of this war. These are people of strong character with endless courage in the face of ridicule, hatred, and even prison time.
The Not Your Soldier Project gives youth the tools and training they need to stop the military invasion of our schools and our communities. See their flash video and find out more about how you can get involved.
Write a Letter to the Editor or Talk to Your Congresspersons
Many soldiers filing for Conscientious Objector status are alienated by their friends and community. Show your support and give them courage by writing a letter to the editor. You can also talk to your congressperson about the importance of supporting the right to refuse to fight. Learn more and find talking points at The Center on Conscience & War.
Protect Your Children
The No Child Left Behind Act includes a little-known provision that requires public schools to disclose student's personal information to military recruiters. To prevent your child from receiving military recruitment information in the mail or phone calls from recruiters you must request that your child's school not disclose your address or phone number. Find out more at the American Friends Service Committee's web site.
