Maine Poised to Become 5th State to Raise the Minimum Wage This Year
The Maine legislature approved LD 235, by Rep. John Tuttle, to increase the minimum wage from $6.50 to $6.75 on October 1, 2006 and to $7.00 on October 1, 2007. Gov. John Baldacci is expected to sign the bill. The minimum wage is on a roll in 2006 — so far it has been increased in Arkansas, Maryland, Michigan, Rhode Island, and now Maine.
