Pete: Where have they really tried to regulate meat and dairy, maybe finally in Europe, certainly not here. Who is regulating CAFOS? Many folks are stuck buying food from supermarkets, since currently there is not enough local food to supply everyone. Should we just blow those folks off because they don't live in Vermont or California or Wisconsin? The food is poisoned, it should be regulated--and we, not Monsanto should determine the kinds of regulations we need.
Louise: The Center for Disease Control and Prevention statistics are dated but they are all we have at this point--not surprising considering the Government's complicity with the factory farm chemical corporations and the food processing industry. You can Google any of the citations I listed and find the same information I used for the article.

I'm rather disappointed by the citations. #9 is of particular interest to me, as it seems fairly related to statistics quoted by anti-raw-milk and anti-small-farm activists. It would be nice if the citation really led readers to the source of information so we could attempt some analysis of the original information.

Federal regulation will not fix our problems! Who has the power in Washington? Monsanto, Cargil, etc. Those are the outfits that will drive the laws and regulations. To stop that we must break their power, and their power solely comes from the willingness of people to buy products from the grocery store instead of local farmers.

If you try and regulate farming you will get the same result as we had with meat and dairy regulation: the entrenchment of dirty players and dirty practices and the significant loss of small family operations (the very ones leading the change to safe organic farming).
