Bruce Levine, author of Surviving America’s Depression Epidemic: How to Find Morale, Energy, and Community in a World Gone Crazy, gave a presentation at Food for Thought Books in Amherst, Massachusetts earlier in the year. In this video, Bruce discusses the corruption, wrong-headedness, and absence of common sense that exists in America’s mental health care system today. Doctors are often pressured, he argues, to be pill-pushing mechanics with rapid turnover and high prescription rates. The overall effect is that patients in real need are often receiving disastrous ‘drive-thru’ care, and those who are able to find help and support find it outside the health care system.

Bruce urges a return to common sense in the industry and a wholesale rejection of quick chemical “fixes” of natural human emotional reaction.
