Resilience in Challenging Times: A Message From Our Publisher

Covid19-blog_820-410

Dear Readers and Supporters, As you know, Chelsea Green has been at the forefront of publishing books on self-sufficiency and sustainable living for over 35 years. Given the hundreds of books we’ve published and the groundbreaking authors we’ve had the privilege to work with, we like to think we have a lot to share about individual and community resilience during hard times.

And yet, like everyone else, we also find ourselves incredibly challenged by recent events in ways both large and small: challenged to turn on a dime and put our mission into practice in entirely new ways; challenged to stay true to our core beliefs of empowering individuals and communities by publishing books on essential subjects; and challenged to do what it takes to support our authors, our staff, and our community, both locally and at a distance.

I am writing to tell you what Chelsea Green is doing in the face of these challenges. While most of our staff is currently working remotely, our customer service staff is available to answer your phone calls and emails and our warehouse remains open to ship books out to you.

In the coming weeks, we will be sharing book excerpts and expert tips from our authors on how to get through this crisis: growing your own food, herbal remedies when store shelves are bare, recipes to nourish you and your family, and other resources for self-sufficiency, adaptability, and resilience—not to mention good old fashioned reads and listens (audiobooks). We are also reaching out to authors on how we can work together in new ways to bring you the information you need.

Thank you for being a reader and supporter of Chelsea Green books and its authors. Our readers have always been our compass—providing inspiration and direction—and that is true now more than ever. We want to hear from you so we can bring you the most useful, practical, and inspirational information and ideas. And we look forward to connecting however we can during this time—through our social media channels, the Chelsea Green website, and email.

Chelsea Green is proud to be an employee-owned independent publisher. And we have worked with wonderfully talented practitioners, experts, and writers for nearly forty years with the goal of empowering individuals and communities. We believe this has never been more important.

From everyone at Chelsea Green Publishing—stay well, stay safe, and stay in touch.
