In addition, pressure canning, brewing, fermenting, as in sauerkrauting, pickling, drying can augment the diet, during the off-seasons. In fact, I store my squash under my bed for 6 months at a time, after washing them in Javex. Folks must take a good hard look at aquaculture too! Composting goes without saying, and in the advent of high oil/fertilizer prices, humanuring is safe, well describe here on the net, with practical examples, and how-to demonstrations. The recline of American society from the boom days of the Cheap Oil Era, into the post industrial boom age is eminent. Chairman Hu, of China will not be enticed into Capitalist, Corporatist, notions of war and false boom-times. He has asked America to sell high-tech products to China. America's schools rate 39th in the world. Hu's request demands that this statistic be drastically adjusted, mostly by having America's schools upgraded to the point where its people can actually produce these goods. Part of this story also demands that Americans relinquish the corporatist, capitalist, propagandized notion of McMansions, suburbs, and SUV's. Self-sufficiency and a sustainable lifestyle are possible and they are in order. The only way America can survive is to morph away from past follies, and move towards the light of a better civilization, and a sustainable one for all its citizens. Gardens and humanuring for edibles must replace the 18th century British borne obsessions with lawns, crappier water toilets, and America must re-examine her most basic identities. Our forefathers, the men that wrote the constitution, were farmers, not lawyers. Is it time in America to return to those basic values?
