Joel Salatin will speak at Project Rogue Valley on March 15, 2012. JCLAC was started two years ago amidst frustration that AmericaÂ’s heated political climate was failing to address issues critical to the Rogue Valley. What was worse, high profile controversies had served to divide rather than unite us. There had to be a better way.
From the outset JCLAC recognized that despite some significant differences, we found strong agreement on a broad range of issues vital to our families and communities. We adopted the term “transpartisan” to identify our commitment to going beyond the divisiveness so common in today’s political discourse.
JCLAC held its first public meeting in July 2009 at the Medford Public Library with over 200 in attendance. That fall we packed the Bigham Knoll auditorium for a local farm/food event. In February of 2010, we hosted Joel Salatin (www.polyfacefarms.com) at the North Medford High Auditorium. Over 700 folks from throughout the region experienced the reality of transpartisanship as Mr. Salatin wowed us all – whether from Ashland, Sams Valley, Central Point, or Cave Junction.
Last summer we hosted Mr. Thomas Greco (beyondmoney.net) for a series of talks. Mr. GrecoÂ’s visit has laid the groundwork for a visionary local trade/credit exchange that could in time have a revolutionary impact on the Rogue Valley economy. We also sponsored a successful Jackson County Commissioner candidate forum last fall that was broadcast live on KMED-AM radio.
It is now time to translate the power of JCLACÂ’s original vision and the potential of the groundwork already laid, with a fresh infusion of energy into a true local movement that can help Rogue Valley communities prepare for todayÂ’s challenges.
