Farmers, engineers, environmentalists, and biofuel enthusiasts have reason to celebrate this month. March 18th is National Biodiesel Day, and this year will mark a 15% increase in the biodiesel industry over 2004, as promising information and legislation about the alternative fuel continue to crop up.
The United States is a relative newcomer to the biodiesel industry, contributing only 30 million of the nearly 570 million gallons produced globally last year, but through the efforts of the National Biodiesel Board, the American Soybean Association, community conversion projects, and celebrity endorsements from Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Daryl Hannah, and others, biodiesel is catching on! See what the fuss is about in Greg Pahl’s Biodiesel: Growing a New Energy Economy. You can read Greg’s history of biodiesel here.
