His workshop description: Agro-Ecosystem Strategy and Building Ecologically Supported Plant Guilds Designing better plant guilds and redundant nutrient cycling systems creates a virtually unlimited resource for food production. On some landscapes, growing plants is not a difficult task. Soils are moderately healthy and water is available by sky or well. On the other hand, soils are more likely to be a challenge to plant propagation and even the richest soil can be depleted over time; resulting in nutrient deficiencies that will stress plants and lower harvests. In this session we will study, strategize, and practice building mutually supportive plant guilds that provide the ecological requirements. We will also look at some extreme landscapes and solutions to build soil resources Each participants’ plant selection process will be guided by their site conditions. Bring your laptop or tablet, and a sharp pencil. Books will be available for sale at the fair.

    Integrated Forest Gardening

The Complete Guide to Polycultures and Plant Guilds in Permaculture Systems

One of the essential practices of permaculture is to develop perennial agricultural systems that thrive over several decades without expensive and harmful inputs. Integrated Forest Gardening is the first, and most comprehensive, guide about plant guilds ever written, and covers in detail both what guilds are and how to design and construct them. This book will benefit all readers interested in permaculture, from permaculture designers and professional growers, to backyard growers new to the concept.
